"Hunter Underwater" Improvisation Workshop

The cello quartet Hunter Underwater invites you to an improvisation workshop. The four cellists share their perspectives on improvising on the cello, exploring sound colors, free and chamber-music approaches to playing in the moment, as well as instant composing.

At the center of the workshop is the question of how, intuitively, several musicians play together in improvised settings. Because the answer is very unique to each performer’s approach, aesthetic taste, musical background, and many other factors, we will practice both musical and non-musical exercises that support finding our own way of improvising in a collective setting, as well as exploring some common languages used by improvisers.

The workshop is open to everyone

who plays a string instrument,

who is interested in instant composing,

who enjoys improvising and exploring improvisation as an open, experimental process,

and who would like to discover new sonic paths together.
